Apple for iPhones iOS 16, together with watchOS 9 for Apple Watches, tvOS 16 , the latest version of the tvOS operating system available for download for Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD , was released today .
Apple TV software updates are smaller in scale than updates for other platforms such as iPhone, iPad, Mac. The tvOS 16 update brings a host of new features, bug fixes and improvements to the Apple TV platform.
One of the new features coming with tvOS 16 is support for Matter , a unifying smart home standard that allows products to work with HomeKit, Alexa, Google Home and Samsung SmartThings, among other automation platforms . With Matter support, users will be able to manage Matter certified accessories through the Home app on Apple TV.
Users can now pair their Nintendo Switch controllers with Apple devices, including Apple TVs with tvOS 16. tvOS 16 also brings HDR10+ support . With the new tvOS version, the Apple TV application works integrated with iOS, iPadOS, watchOS. The Apple Fitness+ app will be able to use measurements taken from the Apple Watch. Multi-user : Improvements have been made to make it easier to add profiles for each member of your Family Sharing group. Each person gets their own queued watch list and personalized TV, movie, music and app recommendations. To add members, open Control Center by holding down the TV button, then select a contact from the screen.
Spatial sound : AirPods 3rd generation,AirPods Pro 2nd generationand 1st generation, Apple TV 4K with AirPods Max uses a personal profile for spatial sound created on your iPhone to deliver a more precise and immersive listening experience. To get started, create a personal profile for spatial audio on iPhone using the same Apple ID as the primary user on your Apple TV 4K. Additional profiles are not supported.
Keyboard : Multi-keyboard language support allows switching between languages when using the on-screen keyboard. You can add more languages under Settings - General - Languages. To change the language when entering text, simply tap the globe icon.
Friend Controller : Play games on Apple TV by combining two game controllers with the help of a friend and using them as a single player. See Adjust controller settings on Apple TV.
My Sports : Open My Sports in the Apple TV app to follow your teams on Apple TV, as well as Apple News and other Apple apps on your Mac, iPhone or iPad. See sports in the Apple TV app.
Siri : Siri gained support for Spanish in Chile, Finnish in Finland, and English in South Africa. You can turn on Siri under Settings - General - Siri. You can activate the smart assistant by pressing the Siri button on your remote control.
