Apple CEO Tim Cook and Head of Services Eddy Cue made a stylish appearance at the Venice Film Festival, joining Hollywood icon George Clooney for the world premiere of Apple TV+’s highly anticipated film Wolfs. The movie, starring George Clooney and Brad Pitt as two "lone wolf" characters forced into an unlikely partnership, received an enthusiastic five-minute-and-35-second standing ovation from the audience at the festival's Sala Grande.
However, while the reception was overwhelmingly positive, Clooney voiced his frustration at the film’s limited theatrical release. Clooney and Pitt reportedly took pay cuts to ensure the movie would hit a wider audience in theaters, but Apple has opted for a shorter run before releasing Wolfs on its streaming platform on September 27.
“It’s a bummer,” Clooney admitted at a press conference, acknowledging the challenges the film industry faces in the post-COVID era. “A lot of people are going to see the film on Apple TV+, and we are getting a release in a few hundred theaters, but yeah, it would have been nicer to have a wide release.”
Before the festival, Cook and Cue enjoyed some downtime at Clooney’s Lake Como villa and later spent an evening with Disclaimer star and executive producer Cate Blanchett, further blending the worlds of tech and Hollywood.
