When I step away from the screen and look at this week and last weekSilicon Valley Bank(SVB) almost all technology news would be about artificial intelligence and chatbots. More or less, all of the tech firms are in some way integrating productive AI into their services. In the last few days, OpenAI, GPT-4published a new language model called Google artificial intelligenceGmailand Docs, announced that it will integrate it into Workspace tools. NewMicrosoft BingThe search engine worried Google with artificial intelligence. So what's missing? Yes, a bitten apple.
Apple is also working on artificial intelligence
Apple held an in-house event on artificial intelligence and major language models last month, but no announcement has been made so far. On the other hand, several teams, including those working on Siri, regularly work on generative language model concepts at Apple, according to the New York Times .
It is a fact that for a long time, Siri (and other assistants such as Alexa and Google Assistant) did not understand queries, and it was difficult to understand different accents in the same mother tongue, let alone queries. On the other hand, chatbots built on ChatGPT and other major language models can understand everything that is said, give new ideas and generate.
It's unclear what Apple will do with productive AI
Former Apple engineer John Burke , who worked on Siri , said in an interview with the NYT that Apple's assistant has undergone a slow evolution due to "bulky code" , which makes core feature updates difficult. Burke also mentions that Siri has a huge database of words. That's why the cumbersome database was prolonging the process for weeks when engineers needed to add new features . At least, that's what Burke is ambitious about. Additionally, it is unclear how Apple will use generative AI. It's not likely for now to deliver it through Siri, because Siri's infrastructure is not suitable for doing this quickly.
The New York Times did not specify whether Apple was working on its own language model or concentrating on an existing one . But one thing is for sure, Apple won't just be left with a talentless voice assistant just like Google and Microsoft. On the other hand, Apple already includes artificial intelligence in its products. Collision detection on the Apple Watch, Face ID, word suggestions on the keyboard, and an AI-powered service that allowed authors to turn their books into audiobooks in January are among the first to come to mind.
