Bloomberg editor Mark Gurman said on The MacRumors Show podcast, where he was a guest, that Apple will add the ability to install applications from third-party sources to the iOS 17 operating system, but only for EU countries .
According to Gurman, iPhone users will indeed have the ability to install apps from outside the App Store , but this feature will only be available in the European region . It looks like the company will have to take this step to avoid violating the EU's Digital Markets Act .
"They will not open to the whole world"
"I think it will be unique to Europe . I think they will not shoot themselves in the foot unless necessary and they will not spread this feature to the rest of the world, " said Gurman .
Gurman, a highly reliable source on Apple, also added that the company will not announce this feature during the WWDC conference as previously thought . Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference will take place from 5 to 9 June 2023 .
