Google Maps' long-awaited feature for iOS, Live Events, is soon to be introduced. Initially, it was revealed that the feature would be released by the end of 2023. However, for some unknown reason, Google postponed this update for the Maps application. Recently emerged details suggest that the feature is still being tested.
According to the details, Google Maps continues to test this new update in the latest iOS version. The update, specific to Dynamic Maps and iOS Live Events, first surfaced in February of last year.
Google Maps has announced that this update for iOS Live Events will only be available on iPhone 14 Pro, Pro Max, and iPhone 15 series. The primary reason is that the feature is exclusive to Dynamic Maps. Accordingly, iPhone users with Dynamic Maps will receive live directions after the update without having to unlock their screens. The new Google Maps feature will appear both dynamically and on the lock screen. Thanks to this update, users can access real-time traffic conditions, live directions, real-time estimated arrival times, public transportation options, bicycle paths, and more without unlocking their phones, which is quite significant.
As Dynamic Maps is not present on Android phones, this feature will currently only be available on specific iPhone models. However, considering the nature of the feature, where notifications also appear on the lock screen, there is a possibility that the new Google Maps update may undergo some modification and become available for Android and other iPhone models as well.
Expectations include the usage of this feature in iPhone 16 models, but the exact date of its introduction remains uncertain. Why does Google offer a feature that is not available on Android for iPhone models? Google is in a fierce competition with Apple in enhancing the functionality of their maps applications. Both companies are striving to make their maps applications more functional. Google Maps, which has been the best-maps application for iPhone for a long time, is keen on not losing this position.
