Apple has rolled out the seventh developer beta of iOS 18.1, introducing some subtle yet notable enhancements. Released with build number 22B5075a, the new beta primarily focuses on minor improvements while refining key features introduced in earlier betas.

Translucent Clock Widgets One of the standout visual changes in iOS 18.1 beta 7 is the updated Clock widget. In tinted mode, the widget now features a translucent, blurred design, giving it a modern, polished look that aligns with Apple’s broader user interface. The translucent effect mirrors Apple's visual style from visionOS, introduced earlier. While this update enhances aesthetics, the core functionality of the Clock widget remains unchanged.

Other Visual Enhancements Beta 7 continues to build on prior updates, with new splash screens for system apps such as Home, Podcasts, TV, and Voice Memos. These splash screens notify users of new features within the apps, although most were added in previous iOS 18 versions. While these may not be game-changers, they contribute to refining the user experience.

Apple Intelligence: The Star Feature iOS 18.1’s Apple Intelligence remains a focal point of the release. Powered by generative AI, Apple Intelligence enables users to edit text and images, as well as summarize emails and notifications. However, access to these features is limited to iPhone 15 Pro, iPhone 15 Pro Max, and iPhone 16 devices, alongside select iPads and Macs with an M1 chip or newer.

Upcoming Features Apple Intelligence’s suite will continue to grow, with Image Playground and Visual Intelligence expected to debut in iOS 18.2, rumored for release in December 2024. Image Playground will allow users to generate AI-created images in Apple-approved styles, while Visual Intelligence will use the iPhone’s camera to identify real-world objects and locations.

Under-the-Hood Improvements While there are no significant changes apart from the translucent Clock widget, beta 7 includes bug fixes and minor tweaks to improve system performance, setting the stage for the anticipated public release of iOS 18.1.

With Apple's generative AI continuing to evolve and improve with every beta, the full suite of Apple Intelligence features promises to redefine how users interact with their devices, offering smarter, more personalized functionality across Apple's ecosystem.
