Apple will be adding new features to the music app with the iOS 18 and macOS 15 updates. Along with seamless audio transitions support, a new feature called Passthrough is coming to Apple Music.
Smarter Song Transitions
While Apple Music currently offers crossfade feature, iOS 18 update will introduce a more advanced version called Smart Song Transition. With the standard crossfade option, the Music app gradually decreases the volume of the currently playing song as it approaches the end and slowly increases the volume while simultaneously starting the new song, ensuring a smooth transition between the two. Smart song transitions will take this feature further by offering users the option to adjust the duration of the crossfade effect, ranging from 1 to 12 seconds, according to their preference.
This is just one of several audio-related updates planned for Apple's system apps. Additionally, the Music app will support a feature called Passthrough, which will likely be associated with Spatial Audio alongside Dolby Atmos and will only be available on supported hardware.
There are also reports of Apple working on a feature called "Spatial Gaming," although details about this feature are currently scarce. iOS 18 will be unveiled at the WWDC 2024 developer conference, which kicks off on Monday, June 10th.
