iPhones with iOS 16 OS installed are getting an alert when they try to connect fake AirPods. Users of Apple devices are warned that the device cannot be verified with a message . A large “Do Not Connect” button appears with the warning.
This does not, however, prevent AirPods from being used in the company's devices. The device can be connected via Bluetooth, but Apple warns that "these headphones have failed to be verified as genuine AirPods and may not behave as expected".
How to identify an original AirPod
It is estimated that fake AirPods cost Apple over $3 billion a year. Unverified devices can still exceed the volume limit and cause harm to users' health.
To identify an original device, the safest way was to obtain the serial number, which is the fingerprint of the product. To find the information, just tap the “More info” button under the AirPods option.
The serial number is printed on the original case on the underside of the open lid or on the authentic AirPods box on the barcode on the back. In the headphones, the information can also be found in the head of the speakers. Once you get the serial number, you can check the Apple product warranty .
Unfortunately, some fake AirPods manufacturers use the serial numbers of genuine devices . Therefore, it is important to be aware of the price differences, the origin of the devices and the details on the packaging and on the headphones themselves.
However, the guarantee that the AirPod is really legitimate only happens with the purchase made in Apple stores and authorized resellers.
