Apple took an important step in messaging with the iOS 16 update. With this update, sent messages can be edited and retrieved. Apple announced in June that this feature will come with the autumn update. With the update available for download on Monday, iPhone users have the option to edit and undo their messages.
To edit or undo any sent message, it will be enough to hold down the message and choose to edit or undo from the options that appear.
Edited messages can be seen in different ways, depending on whether the sender's phone has been updated to iOS 16. While the messages that have been edited on phones that have received the iOS 16 update will be visible at the bottom with an expression indicating that the message has been edited, phones that have not received the iOS 16 update will show the edited version of the message as a second message with the phrase "Edited:" at the beginning.
However, with this feature, it will not be possible to undo or edit a sent message without leaving a trace. As iMessage adds a phrase to the edited message, it will also replace the retrieved messages with another phrase.
On the other hand, this feature will only be available to iPhone users. Because the incompatibility between the messaging infrastructures of iOS and Android operating systems prevents the use of this feature. Although Google makes calls to Apple from time to time to resolve this incompatibility, Apple refuses to do so. The last word about the discussions on this issue has recently come from Apple CEO Tim Cook ; Cook invited people to buy an iPhone, and even told a reporter, who mildly reproached him that he wanted to use such features in messaging with his mother, "buy an iPhone for your mother".
