Apple's iOS 18 update has introduced a suite of fun, animated text effects in the Messages app, giving users unique ways to add personality to their conversations. Whether you’re looking to make words explode, wiggle with nerves, or pop out on screen, these new text effects are both expressive and simple to use.
Here's how to add these effects to your Messages conversations:
- Type Your Message: Compose your message as you normally would.
- Highlight the Words: Double-tap the specific word or phrase you want to animate.
- Select Text Effects: Tap the "A" icon above the keyboard, or tap "Text Effects" in the pop-up menu (where options like "Copy" appear).
- Choose an Effect: Scroll through the list of effects, such as "Explode," "Jitter," or others, and select the one you like. A preview will appear so you can see the effect before sending.
Keep in mind that both you and your recipient must be using iOS 18, iPadOS 18, or macOS 15 Sequoia for the effects to display, and the effects work exclusively with iMessage, not with SMS or RCS.
With iOS 18, Apple has also revamped the Home Screen, Control Center, and Photos app, laying the groundwork for the upcoming iOS 18.1 update. Featuring Apple Intelligence, iOS 18.1 is set to further enhance the iPhone experience.
