At its annually held WWDC, Apple is gearing up to unveil its long-awaited artificial intelligence strategy. While the specifics of what will be introduced at the June 10th event remain under wraps, it’s already clear that AI will be a major focus. iOS 18 is also anticipated to debut, highlighting its AI capabilities. However, it appears that Apple’s own version of a ChatGPT-like AI will not be included in the new iOS version.

Potential Disappointment in AI Offerings

Apple is expected to announce the next major software updates for the iPhone, iPad, Mac, Vision Pro, and smartwatch at WWDC 2024, with a significant emphasis on its AI strategy. Apple marketing executive Greg Joswiak has teased the event's focus on AI, stating, "It's going to be incredible." Yet, according to Mark Gurman, Apple does not plan to launch its AI chatbot. Instead, Apple is reportedly in discussions with Google, OpenAI, and Baidu for potential generative AI partnerships. Gurman suggests that we will see the integration of these companies' AI in iOS 18.

Despite this setback, the iOS 18 update is still expected to be the most ambitious software overhaul in the iPhone's history. It is reported that Siri, along with other apps like Apple Music, Shortcuts, Pages, Numbers, and Keynote, will gain generative AI features. The first beta version of iOS 18 is expected to be available to developers following the WWDC keynote, with a public release scheduled for September.
