Apple has officially released macOS Sonoma 14.5, following a series of beta tests that began in early April 2024. While the update lacks visible new features, it addresses critical bugs, making it a recommended download for all users.
AppleInsider suggests waiting a few days before updating to allow initial feedback from other users, similar to the previous macOS 14.4 update which included new emojis. However, macOS 14.5 focuses solely on fixing bugs, enhancing system stability and security.
One significant bug fix resolves an issue with FaceTime where some users couldn't answer or reject calls due to missing Accept or Decline buttons in notifications. Although the extent of the affected user base is unclear, the fix is a welcome improvement for those impacted.
Another bug affected iPadOS developers creating Mac versions of their apps. Under certain conditions, double-clicking to launch a "Mac (Designed for iPad) app" could open the wrong application. This glitch has also been corrected in macOS 14.5.
The update is rolling out worldwide and will come pre-installed on new Macs. Current Mac users will receive a prompt to update, but they can also manually initiate the download via System Settings, General, and Software Update.
Additionally, updates for other macOS versions have been released: Monterey to version 12.7.5, Ventura to 13.6.7, and Sonoma to 14.5.
Stay updated and secure by downloading macOS Sonoma 14.5 today.
