Apple is reportedly taking a major step toward in-house component design, as the iPhone 17 and other devices in late 2025 are expected to feature Apple’s own Wi-Fi 7 chips, according to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo. This development follows Apple’s ongoing efforts to transition away from third-party suppliers like Qualcomm and Broadcom, aiming for greater control over component design and integration within its ecosystem.

Kuo’s tweet indicates that Apple’s upcoming Wi-Fi chips will utilize Wi-Fi 7, marking a significant upgrade in speed and efficiency. These chips are expected to be manufactured by TSMC using the N7 (7-nanometer) process. Kuo also notes that Apple plans to implement these in-house Wi-Fi chips across nearly all of its devices over the next three years, though some smaller devices, like the Apple Watch, may retain alternative Wi-Fi solutions.

The shift will likely reduce Apple’s component costs and improve its ecosystem integration by ensuring tighter control over performance and compatibility across devices. Apple’s move away from Broadcom comes after years of legal disputes over Wi-Fi patents, and it could signal a new level of independence in Apple’s supply chain strategy.

With this transition, Apple aims not only to enhance device performance but also to establish a seamless, unified ecosystem that maximizes the benefits of on-device connectivity.
