Apple Watch Ultra with microLED display will be delayed
Today, Apple is said to have invested more than $1 billion in MicroLED technology to reduce its dependence on Samsung Display. The first product to benefit from this technology will be the Apple Watch Ultra with a MicroLED display.
To recall, last April, screen analyst Ross Young suggested that the Apple Watch Ultra with MicroLED display would be released in the second half of 2025 at the earliest . In a newly shared report, Trendforce revealed that Apple faced problems such as high cost before mass production .
In this context, Trendforce stated that the Apple Watch Ultra has been delayed for the second time and is unlikely to be introduced before the first quarter of 2026 . So users will have to wait for a while.
What will the new Apple Watch Ultra offer?
For those who don't know, the current Apple Watch Ultra was introduced with a 1.9-inch OLED display that offers a resolution of 502x410 pixels. But the switch to MicroLED will bring significant upgrades in addition to better battery life . The first of these will be better contrast, color and brightness increase thanks to pixel-level lighting .
So much so that the new generation Apple Watch Ultra is said to have a "painted on glass" feel. In addition, unlike OLED technology, MicroLED will offer advantages such as less risk of screen burn and longer lifespan . It should also be noted that these screens will be used in the next generation iPhone models.
