Apple claimed it was a precaution.
The settlement agreement received court approval in 2020 , and now iPhone owners will receive about $65 each from Apple three years later . The lawsuit against Apple was filed after the company admitted in 2017 that iOS was slowing down older iPhone models . Apple apologized for this action, and then offered a software update and new batteries to iPhone owners .
At the same time, Apple denied accusations that its actions were illegal . Because the company claimed that the slowdown is a mandatory measure to prevent the iPhone from turning off automatically in some tasks. The settlement agreement applies to iPhone 6, 6 Plus, 6S, 6S Plus, 7, 7 Plus and first-generation iPhone SE owners who filed for compensation before October 2020
