Apple continues to remove apps that have not been updated for a long time from the App Store in order to maintain the quality on the iOS platform. The company recently kicked 540,000 apps from the store.

Apple removed more than 540,000 apps from the App Store in the third quarter of 2022. The number of available apps fell to the lowest level in the past seven years as the company continues to clear " doomed " apps from the store .

The latest data shared by Finbold shows that the number of apps in the App Store has dropped to 1,642,759 . There has been a decrease of 24.79% since the second quarter. The number of applications fell to these levels with 1,672,271 in the third quarter of 2015 .

Most apps in Google Play Store

The latest cleanup put the App Store in second place in terms of total number of apps in the third quarter. While Google's Play Store is in the first place with 3,553,050 applications, Amazon Appstore is in the third place with 483,328 applications.

Apple has already notified developers in 2016 and later in 2022 that it will begin removing apps from the App Store that haven't been updated for a "significant period" . The company from Cupertino is doing this operation to maintain the quality on the platform .
