“The three-and-a-half-hour running time is fully justified in an escalating tragedy that never loosens its grip — a sordid illustration of historical erasure.
The film co-written by Scorsese and Eric Roth takes place at the turn of the 20th century when oil brought a fortune to the Osage Nation, who became some of the richest people in the world overnight. The wealth of these Native Americans immediately attracted white interlopers, who manipulated, extorted, and stole as much Osage money as they could before resorting to murder.
Deadline reports that "Killers of the Flower Moon will receive a limited theatrical release, including on IMAX screens, on Oct. 6, with a wide on October 20 before streaming globally on Apple TV+. Paramount is handling theatrical distribution."
At one point Scorsese told Deadline that "I’m not talking about making this into a political issue," obviously trying to distance the film from the highly political rants that were made by actor Di Nero at Cannes attempting to draw a parallel with former President Trump. It was a disgrace that De Niro was taking away from the celebrations of the film and the wild applause for the performances made by Leonardo DiCaprio and Lily Gladstone.
