Apple has rolled out the sixth developer betas for iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1, advancing its efforts to refine Apple Intelligence. This follows the release of third developer betas for visionOS 2.1, tvOS 18.1, and watchOS 11.1 earlier in October.

The beta cycle for these operating systems differs due to Apple testing two distinct groups of software: one set integrated with Apple Intelligence and another set without these AI-driven features. The latest iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 builds are numbered 22B5069a, while macOS Sequoia advances to build 24B5070a.

Key Differences in iOS 18.1

The main distinction between iOS 18 and iOS 18.1 is the addition of Apple Intelligence—a suite of generative AI and machine learning tools. While not all Apple Intelligence features will be available at launch, developers have already seen updates like improved Siri functionality with better query understanding, Type to Siri, contextual awareness, product knowledge, and enhanced writing tools.

Early betas also introduced Clean Up for Photos, which allows users to remove unwanted elements from images easily. Other updates include file drag-and-drop with iPhone Mirroring in macOS, new selfie options in Camera Control, and tweaks to Control Center.

Beta Testing Advisory

Apple and experts recommend that beta testers avoid installing test software on mission-critical devices, as unexpected issues could lead to data loss. It’s crucial to use secondary devices for testing and back up important data before installation.
