Apple will allow some iOS users to change their default map app from Apple Maps to another app of their preference, such as Google Maps or Waze. This feature will be available to EU users in accordance with the new Digital Markets Act (DMA) and will be introduced with iOS 18. Over the years, Apple Maps has received numerous updates and improvements. Despite initial criticism, it has become the preferred choice for some iPhone users over Google Maps. However, Apple Maps may no longer be the only default option.

This significant development is included in the documents presented by Apple under the DMA and had gone unnoticed until now. It appears that the option to choose Google Maps as the default will arrive with iOS 18.
