Apple may limit WiFi 6E connectivity support to iPhone 15 Pro models

The feature gap between the iPhone and iPhone Pro models may widen further with the 2023 series. According to a leaked antenna design document obtained by MacRumors , the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max will include WiFi 6E connectivity, while their more affordable siblings will not. The schematic document outlining the antenna architecture of the iPhone 15 series shows that the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will continue to use the legacy WiFi 6 standard.

Some of Apple 's latest devices feature WiFi 6E connectivity, including the recently announced Mac mini , MacBook Pro , and iPad Pro versions with M2 processors. However, the company has not yet made this feature available more broadly. This standard promises faster connection speeds and lower latency than WiFi 6, provided you have a compatible WiFi 6E router to which your device can connect.

The fact that WiFi 6E won't be available on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus will probably not negatively impact most consumers, given that most homes and businesses use older WiFi 5 and WiFi 6 routers.

As MacRumors points out, in the past, Apple hasn't limited the availability of new WiFi standards to iPhone Pro models. Before the iPhone 14 series, the differences between the Pro and standard models were pretty negligible unless you were into photography. However, as of last year, only the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max came with Apple's new A16 Bionic chip, Dynamic Island-enabled punch-hole and ProMotion display. It looks like the company is trying to find even more ways to distinguish the Pro models from their wider-ranging brethren.

According to past reports, other features that could be exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max include Apple's upcoming A16 chipset, titanium bezel, and more RAM for multitasking. It is also said that the phones we will see in the coming months may have solid-state volume and power buttons .
