The rivalry between Apple and Samsung may be getting tougher with each passing year, but the two technology giants have been deeply connected to each other for a long time. Samsung's manufacturing capabilities are used from the iPhone's screen to its processor. But things seem to have changed quite a bit with the iPhone 14 series.
Apple moves away from Samsung
Apple is gradually reducing its dependence on Samsung for its mobile devices. The company has already switched from Samsung Foundry to TSMC to manufacture its processors. It also stopped buying OLED panels from Samsung Display for Apple Watches and turned to LG and BOE. According to the latest information shared by DSCC (Display Supply Chain Consultants) analyst Ross Young , Apple met most of the OLED panels used in the iPhone 14 Pro Max from LG Display instead of Samsung Display. While Samsung is ahead in other models, if this trend continues, Samsung Display will no longer be the largest supplier of OLED panels for Apple devices.
On the other hand, it is quite obvious that Apple will not sever its ties with Samsung. It is stated that Apple has requested a special OLED technology from Samsung for use in the new generation iPad Pro models. The new OLED panels are aimed to be brighter but also longer lasting. It was reported in the past weeks that Apple will switch to MicroLED displays for future Apple Watch Ultra models. Samsung is in a pretty strong position when it comes to MicroLED, and it's probably higher up Apple's options.
