Apple is gearing up for its annual shareholder meeting on February 28, where it faces proposals urging for more transparency in AI usage and addressing concerns from conservative politicians, despite Apple's recommendation to vote against these proposals. The meeting serves as a platform for discussion between Apple and its shareholders about the company's performance and future directions, including CEO Tim Cook's remuneration and the election of new board members.

One of the key proposals for the meeting includes the ratification of Ernst & Young as Apple's independent auditor for 2024. Alongside this, Apple supports votes for board member election and executive compensation.

However, Apple opposes five shareholder proposals that span demands for AI transparency to addressing conservative concerns. Among these is a request from The National Center for Public Policy Research for Apple to explore the risks of not including "viewpoint" and "ideology" in its Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) policy, fearing potential discrimination against conservatives. Apple counters that it already fosters an inclusive culture and such a report would not add significant value.

Another proposal from the American Family Association criticizes Apple for allegedly restricting content access on its platforms, potentially aiding censorship efforts by the Chinese government. Apple defends its compliance with local laws and its efforts to curate app content responsibly.

Arjuna Capital raises concerns about racial and gender pay gaps, urging Apple to report median pay disparities. Apple refutes this by highlighting its commitment to pay equity, as demonstrated on its Inclusion and Diversity website.

The AFL-CIO Equity Index Funds propose that Apple disclose its ethical guidelines and transparency on AI usage to prevent potential discrimination or misinformation. Apple argues that such disclosure could harm its competitive stance, noting its existing commitment to AI transparency and ethics.

Lastly, the National Legal and Policy Center demands a report on Apple's enforcement of privacy and human rights policies globally, questioning Apple's actions in China and Russia. Apple maintains that it adheres to its human rights commitments and is transparent in its operations, dismissing the need for an additional report.
