Unveiled at the same time as the iPhone 14 during Apple's September keynote, the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) follow the first AirPods Pro released in October 2019. The apple brand will therefore have taken three years to refine its recipe. and release the second version of its high-end headphones.

The AirPods Pro (2nd generation) welcome a new, more powerful and less energy-consuming H2 chip. On paper, the headphones therefore gain autonomy and have more effective noise reduction. The entire acoustic architecture has also been reviewed. The case also welcomes its share of new features since it now includes a speaker and a U1 chip to facilitate its location.

The AirPods Pro (2nd generation) were launched on September 23, 2022 at a price of €299. They have been tested in their 5A374 version with the case in version 3.64.0.

Manufacturing & accessories

Difficult to differentiate the first from the second AirPods Pro at first glance, as they are so similar. Indeed, the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) use the same size and the same design as their elders with the small branch directed towards the mouth of the user. They are also always dressed in white plastic shells, with a shiny finish, with holes here and there with black grids protecting the microphones and vents.

The case of the AirPods Pro (2nd generation) has the same dimensions as its predecessor. It is therefore just as easy to handle with one hand and will easily find its place in a trouser pocket. It is however slightly heavier by five grams, in particular because of the presence of a speaker, but also of different magnets at the back of the case, facilitating recharging thanks to the MagSafe standard or using an Apple Watch charger. The new case also accommodates a notch on the side, which is used to hang a wrist strap. It's a pity that it is not provided with the purchase – it is invoiced at 14.95 €!

ere too, the plastic used is always pristine white (at least before some yellowing caused by the pangs of time) and is always quick to catch the slightest scratch. The level of finish is nonetheless very satisfactory, especially since the case is now IPX4 certified, and therefore resistant to splashing water.
