One of the major changes in the latest generation of AirPods Pro was on-device volume controls.

Previously, volume could be altered from only the device you’re listening to. This was something that made other wireless earbuds seem like a more practical option.

Simply swiping up or down on the front of the stalk on either AirPod will turn the volume up or down. However, you might have found them a bit sensitive.

The AirPods are so small that often even taking them in and out will adjust the volume - or make it hard to make small changes to the level of sound.

Luckily, you can adjust or even completely disable the volume controls without too much bother. Here’s how.

How to turn off or adjust volume controls on AirPods Pro 2

1. Open the AirPods’ settings

Make sure that the AirPods Pro 2 are either in your ears or in an open case. Go to the Settings app on your iPhone.

Find the option for your AirPods and tap on it to open the Settings screen for your buds and click on the ‘Accessibility’ option.

2. Find the Volume Control section

In the Accessibility screen, scroll down to find the section named Volume Control.

The first thing you’ll need is the section called ‘Volume Swipe’. It should be on by default, so if you want to turn off volume controls altogether, simply tap it.

3. Tweak the sensitivity

If you merely want to adjust the sensitivity, look at three options below the Volume Swipe switch: ‘Default’, ‘Longer’, and ‘Longest’.

This affects how ‘long’ the swipe on the stem needs to be in order to work. You can adjust how purposeful a swipe is needed, so accidental brushes should be ignored.
