According to Denise Huertas, Rocky (her Yorkshire Terrier) disappeared while she was out taking out the trash. She didn't notice the puppy's disappearance until about an hour later, when she ran to see the location of the AirTag she had placed on her pet's collar.

When he opened the Buscar ( Find My ) app, Huertas saw that his dog was about 20 minutes from his home at the Orange County Animal Service — a shelter in the area where he lives. Luckily for him, a person walking down the street saw Rocky wandering alone and took him safely to the spot.
Shelter workers said they noticed the AirTag on Rocky's collar as soon as he was delivered. According to Bryant Almedia, this is the first time that an animal retrieved by the Animal Service has been returned to its owner thanks to the Apple tracker.

Apple, it is worth remembering, does not recommend that its users use AirTag to track pets, advising them to only use it to track objects such as keys, suitcases and the like. This, however, did not stop other manufacturers from developing collars for pets with spaces for the accessory - which can be easily found on the internet for the most varied values.

Huertas completed his account by saying that, after what happened, he will acquire a microchip for his puppy so that he will never go through something like that again. The shelter that took care of Rocky used the occasion to remind other owners to always bet on things like collars with contact information to avoid cases like this.
