Apple has updated its Windows Migration Assistant tool to facilitate data transfer from Windows PCs to Macs, now with specific support for macOS Sonoma. The Windows Migration Assistant allows for the migration of various data types, including contacts, calendars, emails, and multimedia files, from a Windows PC to a Mac. The latest version, 3.0.0.0, released on Thursday, introduces full compatibility with macOS Sonoma without altering its fundamental functionality. To use the tool, it must be installed on the Windows PC and can then be utilized via a new Mac's Setup Assistant or the existing Mac's Migration Assistant. The process involves administrative authentication, selection of the source PC, code verification, data selection, and initiating the transfer. This version necessitates macOS Sonoma 14.4 or newer on the Mac and Windows 10 or newer on the PC. The necessity for this specific update remains unclear since the tool was operational prior to it. For systems not meeting these criteria, Windows Migration Assistant v.2.4.5.0 remains an option, supporting older macOS versions and Windows 7 or later.
