An application falsely claiming to represent the Rabby Wallet crypto service has emerged as the latest oversight by Apple's App Store review team. Despite Phil Schiller of Apple asserting that the EU's mandate for alternative app stores would compromise iPhone security, this acclaimed security has been breached once more. This incident follows closely on the heels of the uncovering of a movie piracy app and a counterfeit LastPass app on the App Store, with the recent fraudulent blockchain app now deceiving users into parting with their money.

The counterfeit app, named "Rabby Wallet & Crypto Solution," falsely claims to be the legitimate Rabby Wallet application. This fake app found its way onto the App Store without any legitimate competition, as the authentic Rabby Wallet app has yet to be approved and is still undergoing the App Store review process, as stated by its developer, DeBank Global Pte. Ltd. The developer has been alerting customers about the impostor app. Users seeking the blockchain service offered by the genuine app can alternatively access it through a Mac application or a Chrome extension.
One user shared on Apple's support forums that they were deceived by this phony app, losing approximately $5,000 USD. Despite multiple reports over what the user claims to be a span of four years, the app remained accessible on the App Store until recently. Another individual expressed their frustration on Rabby Wallet's Discord channel, lamenting the swift loss of most of their holdings due to using the wallet, acknowledging a lack of due diligence on their part but also intending to seek reimbursement from Apple support.
Apple has since informed AppleInsider that the fraudulent app has been removed from the App Store. The incident highlights ongoing issues with app authenticity on Apple's platform; similar problems have occurred with the Mac App Store, where Apple has also faced challenges in promptly removing counterfeit applications.
This update was provided at 3 A.M ET on February 20, 2024, confirming the removal of the fake app from the App Store.
