What Is The Maximum Video Resolution For Cinematic Mode On The iPhone?

Cinematic Mode has been around for over a year, but what is the maximum resolution that it supports on Apple iPhones? In 2020, the iPhone 12 could do many things, but shooting videos with shallow depth of field wasn't one of them. However, Apple changed that in 2021 by releasing a new camera feature with the iPhone 13 series called the Cinematic Mode.

Well, iPhone's camera is also capable of performing other cool tricks. For example, with iOS 15, iPhones can read the text in an image, a feature that Apple likes to call Live Text. Then there's the HDR mode that balances light very well between the brightest and darkest portions of an image. Users can also enable Live Photos to capture what the camera sees before and after clicking the image.

At the moment, all the models in the iPhone 13 series, along with those in the iPhone 14 series, support Cinematic Mode, which makes up eight smartphones. With the feature, users can record videos with a shallow depth of field that results in a beautiful background blur and add focus transition "for a cinema-grade look." However, the first iPhone to receive the feature, i.e., iPhone 13, could only record Cinematic Mode videos in 1080p at 30 fps at the time of launch. Unfortunately, there has been no improvement in the video settings on the iPhone 13. While the feature works fine and the results are acceptable, other smartphone brands are catching up with their version of the Cinematic Mode.

iPhone 14 Can Shoot Cinematic Videos In 4K

If someone wants to shoot high-resolution videos with Cinematic Mode, iPhone 14 is the way to go. As It turns out, Apple has improved the Cinematic Mode video resolution to 4K at 30 fps with its latest smartphones, including the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and the iPhone 14 Pro Max. While that is a significant upgrade, those who wish to shoot videos with shallow depth of field will still not be able to shoot at higher frame rates, something that adds smoothness to a video. Nevertheless, iPhone 14 can record HDR videos in Cinematic Mode, so the overall video quality should not be an issue for most.

To record a Cinematic Mode video, users should open the Camera app on their iPhone, tap on Cinematic Mode, and turn their visualization into reality. An exciting thing about Cinematic Mode is that the exposure settings do not show up until the user turns the iPhone into landscape mode and presses the arrow toward the interface's left. In addition, Cinematic Mode allows users to adjust the background blur through the Depth Control button, switch between different camera lenses and enable flash. After shooting a video in the Cinematic Mode, users can adjust the background blur and the focus points through the Photos app.
