Commissioned by Apple in 2020, 'Earthsounds' is a twelve-episode venture by Offspring Films, the creators behind 'Earth at Night in Color,' with Hiddleston once again lending his voice to this captivating nature docuseries.
Set for a global release on Apple TV+ this Friday, February 23, the series was produced over a span of 1,000 days, capturing the unique sounds of nature from various corners of the Earth, many of which remain unheard by most outside their local environments.
Tom Hiddleston expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, "Narrating 'Earthsounds' was a profound experience. The collaboration between Offspring Films and Apple TV+ has yielded a truly distinctive series. Witnessing the natural world's beauty and sounds with such close and extraordinary detail fills one with wonder and admiration." The series takes audiences on a journey through diverse ecosystems, from the Queensland rainforest and Antarctic ice shelf to Namibian dunes and vibrant coral reefs.
Among the series' highlights are rare audio recordings, such as the mating calls of snow leopards, the delicate sounds of ostrich chicks communicating from inside their eggs, the musicality of spiders, and the romantic calls of walruses deep in the ocean. Additionally, 'Earthsounds' delves into the sonic backdrop of our planet itself, featuring the desert's hum, the sound of trees absorbing water, and the enigmatic buzz of the northern lights.
The team behind 'Earthsounds' includes Alex Williamson and Isla Robertson serving as executive producers, with Sam Hodgson as the series producer and Tom Payne directing.
This collaboration marks the second partnership between Offspring Films and Apple TV+, following their BAFTA-nominated work on 'Earth At Night In Color,' also narrated by Hiddleston.
