The Stolen Device Protection feature creates a second layer of security, preventing unauthorized access to a phone that is not in the user's possession, even if the password is known. If the phone is in a location not associated with the owner, and this feature is enabled, the iPhone will require a password in addition to Face ID facial recognition to perform sensitive operations such as showing registered passwords or erasing the phone. A thief will be unable to make any changes to the device or access these settings with just the password. Additionally, the user's Apple ID password cannot be changed, and Face ID cannot be disabled without a mandatory one-hour delay.
