The delays from both LG and Samsung could provide Sony with a multi-year lead for OLEDoS for Apple's XR Headset.
While it was expected that LG Display would play a major role supplying Apple with OLEDos display, they have placed an order for the equipment needed for this next-gen display.
As for Samsung Display, they're producing samples of OLEDoS but not for Apple. Their samples are aimed at supplying Samsung Electronics' Mobile Experience (MX) division. Secondly, the technology for Samsung's device is different from that for Apple's XR Headset, though both will apply 'WOLED+CF' method for OLEDoS, which forms a color filter (CF) on white (W)-OLED.
However, Samsung Display's version is known as 'RGB' method OLEDOS, which deposits red (R), green (G) and blue (B) pixels adjacent to each other on the same layer. The industry predicts that it will take more than 3 to 4 years for RGB-type OLEDos to be mass-produced.
For this reason, it is expected that Sony will mainly supply OLEDos for Apple's XR Headset for the next several years.
