Owners of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max are facing frustrating issues, as many report that their devices are randomly freezing and restarting without warning. The problem appears widespread, with numerous reports surfacing on Apple Support Communities, Reddit, and other forums, where users claim their iPhones become unresponsive before abruptly rebooting.
According to reports, the issue can happen up to 20 times a day, affecting everything from active use to standby mode. Some users say the iPhone, when awoken, goes directly to the home screen instead of resuming where it left off, further complicating the user experience.
A recent update to iOS 18.0.1 has not resolved the issue. Even after returning their phones for replacement models, some users continue to experience the same freezing and restart cycle. In some cases, users who restored their phones from a Mac backup rather than iCloud noted improvements. A few have also reported that performing a complete factory reset seems to help, but the problem persists for many.
Currently, Apple has not commented on the situation, but speculation suggests that iCloud syncing could be contributing to the issue. A future iOS update may be required to fully resolve the problem, but as of now, users are still searching for a permanent fix.
Despite these technical challenges, the iPhone 16 Pro models continue to represent the majority of sales in the iPhone 16 lineup, even as sales numbers have been relatively slow globally, except in China.
