iPad Users Hold onto Their Devices Longer than iPhone Users, Report Finds

According to a report published by CIRP, iPad users tend to hold onto their older devices for much longer compared to iPhone owners, often passing them on to family or friends.

The report from analysis firm CIRP indicates that new iPad owners tend to keep their old devices for extended periods. Data collected over 12 months shows that 67% of iPad purchasers do not dispose of their old devices; instead, they either keep them for themselves or pass them on to family and friends.

Roughly two-thirds of iPad buyers choose to hold onto their old iPads rather than selling them or trading them in at stores.

Only 5% of iPhone Users Sell Their Old Phones

According to CIRP's report, only 3% of iPad owners trade in their old devices, and 6% sell them. When compared to iPhone users, 41% of new iPhone buyers either pass on their old devices to friends/family or keep them after purchasing a new iPhone. The number of iPhone users parting ways with their old phones through trade-ins is 42%. Meanwhile, 5% of users prefer to sell their old iPhones to make some money.

The report also highlights the number of users who replace their devices due to loss, theft, or damage. 23% of iPad users and 6% of iPhone users purchase new devices for specific reasons.
