Developers woke up to an unexpected surprise when a bug in Apple's App Store Connect inflated their reported earnings to million-dollar figures early Thursday morning. This anomaly was seen in the platform's Sales and Proceeds section, which typically provides accurate analytics on app performance.

Several developers took to social media to share their brief financial windfalls, with screenshots depicting proceeds ranging from about $2 million to over $10 million. For a few hours, the data suggested a 999% increase in revenue, causing excitement and confusion within the developer community.

Apple has acknowledged the issue, noting on the App Store Connect dashboard that there was a problem with the 24-hour view of Sales and Proceeds data starting from April 10, 2024, at 10 p.m. UTC. The company stated it is actively working to resolve the glitch.

The misreporting could have serious implications. One developer noted on Mastodon that businesses automating their ad spending based on hourly proceeds might have inadvertently increased their expenditure, potentially leading to significant financial repercussions.

Apple is advising developers to verify their App Store Connect accounts and to contact Apple Support if they have concerns or need further clarification regarding their actual earnings.
