Peter Moore, a renowned tech executive with an illustrious career at companies like Sega, Xbox, and Electronic Arts, recently revealed that his Apple Watch played a crucial role in saving his life. The former Xbox head credits the device’s low heart rate alerts for prompting him to seek medical help, which led to the discovery of a life-threatening heart condition.

On a routine day, while on his way to the airport to pick up his daughter, Moore felt unusually lightheaded and faint. Initially dismissing the symptoms, he decided to grab a coffee, thinking it would help. However, his Apple Watch began pinging with alerts, warning him of a low heart rate. The device showed that his heart rate had dropped to a dangerous 32 beats per minute — far below the normal resting range of 50 to 60 bpm.

Alarmed, Moore called his wife, who insisted he go to the hospital immediately. At the hospital, doctors confirmed that his heart condition was severe and that he needed a pacemaker right away. The surgery was successful, and Moore now reports feeling great.

Dr. Omid Yousefian, the cardiac electrophysiologist who treated Moore, emphasized the importance of the Apple Watch in this scenario, saying, "The Apple Watch played a big role in saving his life." While the device cannot detect heart attacks, it can alert users to abnormal heart rhythms, which can be critical in preventing serious health issues.

Moore, who now serves as SVP and GM of Unity Technologies' Sports and Live Entertainment division, joins a growing list of individuals who credit the Apple Watch with helping them detect hidden health issues. Reflecting on his experience, Moore said, "I wouldn't be here if it wasn't for this little device," highlighting the life-saving potential of wearable technology.
