The Apple Watch has become a popular device among fitness enthusiasts, tech enthusiasts, and professionals who want to stay connected on the go. The company is now looking to add authentication methods for the Apple Watch for privacy purposes and is therefore seeking a patent for the Apple Watch to use Face ID with a camera.
Apple Watch models may finally be getting a camera
The camera placement on the Apple Watch system may be integrated into the watch band. However, Apple's design intent seems to keep the camera sleek and bulky. Note that the inclusion of such components in patent applications may hinder user performance and may not be suitable for certain functions. Of course, that's the last thing Apple wants to do.
Apple aims to equip the camera with a sensor that provides images in the range of .9MP to 12MP and shoots video up to 4K at 30-60fps resolution. They have extensive plans for many functions such as face recognition, fingerprint scanning, Quick Response (QR) code scanning, biometric tracking, video conferencing, photography and video/image capture.
