During her appearance at the Reuters NEXT conference earlier this week, Apple's Vice President of Environment, Policy, and Social Initiatives, Lisa Jackson, made it clear that the tech giant Apple does not hike its product prices to cover the expenses associated with its ambitious carbon reduction strategies.

Jackson firmly stated that the cost burden of Apple's environmental initiatives does not fall on its customers. According to her, Apple has made a conscious decision not to add a premium to its prices to fund the environmental work it undertakes. "We don't factor in a premium to take care of the work that we're doing," she articulated, ensuring that customers are not financially impacted by the company's commitment to sustainability.

Furthermore, Jackson highlighted the influential role of Apple's CEO, Tim Cook, in championing these environmental initiatives. She detailed how Cook has been a pivotal figure in setting a leadership example, aiming to showcase that Apple's success in integrating clean energy and recyclable materials into its supply chain, thereby reducing emissions, is not merely because of its size or resources. Instead, it's a testament to the company's understanding and execution of sustainable practices. "I want to do it in a way that other businesses can say this isn’t because they’re Apple," Jackson conveyed, emphasizing the replicable nature of these practices for other businesses willing to adopt similar sustainability measures.

Additionally, Jackson proudly discussed Apple's forward-thinking efforts in recycling rare earth elements and other materials, highlighting its collaborations with smaller enterprises. She outlined Apple's strategy of investing in these areas to then assist in scaling these practices, helping to elevate other companies' environmental efforts. "That’s somewhere Apple can invest and then help to scale and bring (other) businesses along," she noted, illustrating Apple's role as a catalyst in the broader adoption of sustainable practices across industries.

The launch of the Apple Watch Series 9 in September marked a significant milestone for Apple, being celebrated as the company's "first-ever carbon-neutral product." This achievement was extended to the Apple Watch SE 2 and the Apple Watch Ultra 2, which have also achieved carbon-neutral status. However, it's important to note, as the company does, that this designation specifically applies to "select case and band combinations" of the Apple Watch, indicating that not all configurations meet this standard.
