Apple Music tests feature for migrating Spotify playlists in beta version

The latest Android beta for Apple Music introduces prompts for importing playlists from services like Spotify. Unlike relocating old iTunes libraries, music tracks don't transfer between streaming services; however, playlist migration, though somewhat cumbersome, has been feasible.

Apple seems to be exploring an in-app solution for this migration, deviating from less reliable third-party methods. This initiative appears to involve collaboration with SongShift, a notably effective service in this domain. Currently, the feature is exclusive to the Android Apple Music beta, limited to certain users, and not fully operational, indicating it's more of an alpha phase experiment aimed at assessing user interest or response.

Should this functionality advance beyond beta and become universally accessible to Android users of Apple Music, its extension to iPhone users would likely follow. This approach diverges from Apple's norm, as incomplete tests typically debut on iPhone; a recent exception being Apple Music Classical's Android launch preceding its iPad introduction.

In a related development from 2020, Spotify threatened to cut off SongShift's access, prompting SongShift to initially remove Spotify transfers in its 5.1.2 app version. Nevertheless, by version 5.2.3, the capability was reinstated.
