NEW IN IOS 16.2
First of all, the " Live Activities " function, which arrived in France with iOS 16.1 , extends to the iPhone's integrated TV application for certain sports. A function that can also be used via the " Dynamic Island " of the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max . As a reminder, Live Activity Tracking allows you to dynamically follow certain events, such as football matches, via persistent notifications that display the score in real time, for example.
The beta adds a new option that can provide " more frequent updates ": when enabled, Live Activities will request refreshes at shorter time intervals to display " more real-time information ". A message found in the operating system code by 9to5Mac states this:
“ Allowing more frequent updates lets you see more real-time information, but can drain your battery faster .” Several applications already use Live Activities and could use this parameter, which would be made public before the official release of iOS 16.2 according to the English media.
iOS 16.2 additionally adds a sleep widget to add to the lock screen . It allows to indicate the time spent in bed numerically or visually and the quality of sleep using a bar graph. Also, Apple has integrated an option to contact him when the Emergency SOS function is triggered by mistake or even a more reliable architecture for the Home application .
IPADOS 16.2 IS ALSO IN THE WORKS
This beta also marks the arrival of Freeform, announced at WWDC last June , an Apple application that allows you to draw, write and add audiovisual content to a board in a collaborative way. An application surely awaited by iPad users , since iPadOS 16.2 should also arrive in mid-December, alongside macOS Ventura 13.1 at the same time.
Apple is also taking the opportunity to reintroduce support for the external display on iPadOS 16 , which had been delayed. Compatible iPad users will therefore be able to connect their touch pad to an external screen while using the Stage Manager function to manage several windows at the same time.
According to Mark Gurman, Apple could launch iOS 16.3, iPadOS 16.3 and macOS Ventura 13.3 between February and March to coincide with the release of the next Macs. As for iOS 16.2, we can expect that users registered in Apple's beta software program will have access to it soon, without a precise date.
