In 2017, Apple filed a claim with the Swiss Federal Intellectual Property Institute claiming the apple image . The application included a long list of potential uses of the trademark most commonly in electronic, digital and audiovisual consumer products . The ministry approved the company's application in 2022 , but stressed that any apple images are in the public domain . Apple disagreed and appealed .
Why does Apple want this?
There are two speculations as to why the company did this . First: Apple is preparing for a major redesign and is considering redesigning the logo and changing it to a flat apple . Second: Apple wants to make extra money by selling licenses to post apple photos.
Of course, this may negatively affect other companies using the apple image . For example, the Swiss company Fruit Union Suisse has a similar logo to Apple . Representatives of the company fear that they will have to change the logo because of Apple's "requests" . It is worth noting that Fruit Union Suisse has existed for 111 years , while Apple is only 47 years old .
