In a strategic move towards advancing its mixed reality ambitions, Apple is reportedly scouting new suppliers for OLED panels. Currently reliant on Sony for its Apple Vision Pro headset, Apple has reached out to Samsung and LG for larger OLED panels, signaling a shift towards enhancing its product lineup.

Sources indicate that Apple's inquiries focus on OLED panels ranging from 2.0 to 2.1 inches, significantly larger than those used in its current models. These panels, despite offering lower resolutions compared to the high-end Apple Vision Pro, could power a more cost-effective mixed reality device. Such a headset could leverage iPhone or Mac connectivity to reduce onboard processing costs, potentially making mixed reality technology more accessible.

While Sony remains the primary supplier for the Apple Vision Pro with its wOLED+CF technology, capable of delivering vibrant colors, Apple's interest in Samsung's RGB-integrated OLED panels suggests a pursuit of higher brightness levels and possibly improved visual fidelity.

This strategic move comes amidst rumors of Apple's ongoing development of a refreshed Apple Vision Pro model and speculation about a future lower-priced mixed reality headset aimed at broader consumer accessibility.
