Apple has kicked off a new round of beta testing for iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, and macOS Sequoia 15.2, bringing the second wave of Apple Intelligence features to developers and early testers. Following the release candidates of iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS Sequoia 15.1 on October 21, the company is now advancing its AI-driven Apple Intelligence suite with even more interactive tools and integration options.

The primary focus of these betas centers on expanding Apple Intelligence with a series of novel features designed to enhance user creativity and productivity across Apple devices. The latest updates include a new API for Writing Tools, enabling third-party apps to integrate Apple’s enhanced text generation capabilities. Genmoji makes its debut, allowing users to create personalized emojis from custom prompts, which can then be shared across apps. Developers will also gain API access to Genmoji, expanding its use in app experiences.

Image Playground is another new feature introduced in these betas, where users can generate custom images from simple prompts. These images can be embedded directly into documents and other files, offering a creative tool for users looking to add unique visuals to their work. This feature, too, comes with an API for developers, broadening its accessibility.

For Siri, the integration of ChatGPT represents a significant enhancement. Select queries will be directed to ChatGPT, giving users access to broader conversational capabilities and deeper insights than traditional Siri responses. Meanwhile, Visual Intelligence debuts exclusively for iPhone 16 users, enabling users to make queries using their camera to gain information in real-time, such as identifying objects, locations, or even translating text on the go.

Apple has also expanded the reach of Apple Intelligence’s voice capabilities, moving beyond American English to five additional English-speaking regions. This wider availability signals Apple’s commitment to making its AI features accessible across diverse global audiences.

As always, Apple and tech media sources advise users not to install beta software on primary devices due to the potential risk of data loss or functionality disruptions. For those participating in the beta testing, Apple recommends using backup devices and keeping essential data backed up securely.
