Competing against Qualcomm and Apple
As it is known, Qualcomm and Apple provide satellite communication service based on 5G chipset today . MediaTek, which plans to participate in this race, is preparing an independent chip that can be added to 4G or 5G phones  . According to the shared information, the new chipset will support the 3GPP NTN (Non-Terrestrial Network) standard, which has been in our lives for a long time, unlike Qualcomm and Apple.

Another difference will be that MediaTek's satellite chips will be connected to satellites in geosynchronous equatorial orbit rather than low-Earth orbit satellites. In this context, the chipmaker states that it will offer a full two-way messaging opportunity  compared to Apple's one-way emergency SOS texts .
The new chipset is expected to be available with Motorola defy 2 ,  CAT S75 and defy bluetooth accessory. According to the statements, the new devices  will be launched in North America, Latin America and Canada in the second quarter of 2023 .
